Course I: Introduction to Nanotechnology Safety

Introduction to Nanotechnology Safety introduces students to nanotechnology, nanomaterials and manufacturing, national security implications, and societal and ethical issues of nanotechnology.

This course ideally should be a sophomore/junior level course. After completing this course, students will be able to understand:

  • The ethical and societal impact of nanotechnology,
  • Fundamental concepts in sustainable nanotechnology, and
  • The nature and development of nanotechnology

If offered as a full  course then this course will meet ABET‘s student learning outcomes:

(f) An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility,
(h) The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context, 
(j) A knowledge of contemporary issues.

This course was offered online as Special Topics- TECH 4350 course in Summer II 2013 (July 8, 2013 to Aug 8, 2013) at the University of Texas at Tyler. This course was open to all students, industry professionals, and anybody who has interest to learn nanotechnology safety issues. The following were formalities (for reference only).

Students were required to follow following steps in order to be formally enrolled, participated in the course, and had the audit transcripted by the University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler). The course fee was $50 for non-residents of State of Texas.
